The Magic, the Mayhem, and the Moments That Keep Us Going

Living in Africa is magical. The kind of magic you can’t package or fake — the sun rising over the bush in a golden haze, elephants ambling past as if they own the place (which, truthfully, they do), the soundtrack of lions at night and birdsong at dawn.

But here’s the thing — as magical as it is, life here isn’t a postcard every day. We’re still just people. People with deadlines, responsibilities, unexpected curveballs… and yes, the occasional really bad day.

The last few weeks have tested us. We’ve faced moments of heartbreak, moments of frustration, and moments where things simply didn’t go to plan. Some challenges were out of our control, and others came from hard lessons learned in the field. Each one reminded us that while the magic of Africa is very real, so is the fact that we’re human — and sometimes life in the bush throws you more than a few curveballs.

That’s the thing about running a safari business — it’s equal parts breathtaking sunsets and problem-solving in dusty boots. Some days, it feels like the whole world is on our shoulders.

And then… something happens.
Like a client looking us in the eye and saying, “We just had the best day of our lives,” before listing all the incredible wildlife they saw. Those words? They make the sleepless nights, the hard talks, and the long days worth it.

We strive to do our best. Always. And when mistakes happen — because they will — we regroup, we learn, and we keep going. Above all, we’re thankful. Thankful that people are safe. Thankful that bellies are full. Thankful that even in the rough patches, this life offers more beauty than hardship.

The season has been up and down, shaped by the same uncertainties facing the rest of the world. But here’s my promise to you: the magic is still here. And when you find yourself on safari, watching the sun set over the African bush with a cup in your hand and dust in your hair, you’ll understand why — through it all — we wouldn’t trade this life for anything.

Shout out to Jason, Kacie, Laura, and Laurie! We hope to see this side of the planet again very soon! Safe travels home!
